Charles William O’Brien

Charles William O'Brien passed away at St. Louise Regional Medical Center on December 25th at the age of 77 years. Charles was born in Hollister, and lived in Hollister all his life. He was a graduate of San Benito High School and was active in both football and track. After being afflicted with polio, Charlie was the first person in San Benito County to utilize the iron lung. Charlie was a U. S. Postal employee for 35 years as well as being a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Lions and Elk's organizations. He always enjoyed assisting on their barbeques. Charles is survived by his son Mark O'Brien of Japan, his daughter Kimberly P. Rivera of Colorado Springs, his granddaughter and grandson Jessica P. Rivera and Marco A. Granger-Rivera of Colorado. He was predeceased by his brother John O'Brien. As per his wishes no services are planned. Private cremation and inurnment has been held. Kip passed away on Dec. 28 after a brief illness. He was a longtime farmer in the Santa Clara Valley and the owner of G & K Farms in Gilroy. He is survived by his wife, Renee of Morgan Hill, sisters Ann Fitinghoff of Los Gatos and Martha Maio of Phoenix, AZ. and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Henderika Brundage who lived for many years in San Jose and Los Gatos. Services will be held on January 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Johnson Funeral Home in Morgan Hill. A full obituary will be in Friday's paper.
