Police blotter: Grand theft, failure to register as sex offender
The Gilroy Police Department made arrests for a wide variety of crimes this past week, including grand theft, evading police in a vehicle, cruelty to a child, lewd or lascivious acts on a child and burglary. All arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter between Nov. 9 and 16. All suspects remain innocent until proven guilty, and an appearance in the arrest log does not signify guilt for the listed crime/s.

Malnourished horses seized, owner charged with felony cruelty
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has charged a South County horse owner with felony cruelty to animals, according to a Nov. 14 press release. County Animal Control this week seized the herd, which remained after a neighbor and a rescue center tried to help by buying some of the most neglected animals.
Police, fire find hash oil lab in Gilroy man’s home
A 31-year-old Gilroy man was arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance after the fire department responded to a call about a strong gas odor in the area of Fourth and Rosanna streets. Rene Vargas was making a concentrated form of cannabis made with pressurized butane in the home he shared with his father, wife and 11-month-old son on the 7600 block of Rosanna Street, a Gilroy Police Department spokesman said.
