SOFTBALL: Mustangs open season with 1-0 win

Lauren Castro struck out five, walked three and surrendered just one hit in anchoring the Gilroy High softball team's 1-0 victory over Capuchino in nonleague action Tuesday in Gilroy. Not too shabby for her high school debut.

Jacob “Jack” Kent

Jacob (Jack) W. Kent passed from us on Wednesday December 9th at his home in Hollister, CA. Jack was born in Salinas CA. March 22, 1923, Served in the Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged. Jack worked for 42 years at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, and retired in 1982 as a Senior District Engineer. Jack is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law Tara, two grandsons Cody and Colton, and his granddaughter Lilian. There are no formal services planned, a reception to honor his life will be held in January, with a later announcement.
