Gov. Brown: More funding for schools – if taxes pass
Citing a national economic recovery that is “proceeding more slowly than anticipated,” Gov. Jerry Brown released a revised state budget Monday aimed at sparing education and public safety from deeper cuts by levying two temporary taxes, while slashing a collective $8.3 billion from “almost every part of government.”
Gavilan students take shot at hospital survey
After Saint Louise Regional Hospital released its results from a recent phone survey asking Gilroy voters if they would be in favor of a sales tax increase – an avenue the hospital is exploring in light of the exponentially growing need for a bigger emergency room – a group of Gavilan College statistics students took interest and conducted their own poll.

At Saint Mary School, the recipe has five decades of staying power behind it; and on Friday, the Catholic school on First Street celebrated its 140th year of education with its semi-annual spaghetti dinner. This year marked the dinner’s 50th anniversary, making the event especially significant.
Kudos, mustangs! GHS receives six-year accreditation term from WASC
After being thoroughly scrutinized in March by a committee from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Principal Marco Sanchez found out today that GHS will be given the second highest accreditation term a school can receive. GHS was awarded a six-year accreditation term through 2018, with one mid-term visit in 2015.
