Extreme makeover on tap for Gilroy High

Gilroy High School will celebrate its 100th birthday next month - but it won't look any older thanks to an upcoming "extreme school makeover" that includes a revamped practice space for the GHS wrestling team, a renovation for the campus quad area and much-needed classroom upgrades.

GTA releases budget cut recommendations

Just several days after the Gilroy Unified School District released budget cut recommendations for the 2012-13 school year, the Gilroy Teachers Association drafted its own recommendations based on submitted ideas for budget cuts and/or revenue enhancements. The input was gathered via survey sent to all teachers in the district.

The good vibes were infectious Wednesday night inside the dining commons at Christopher High School. Roughly 300 students were smiling, pop music streamed from a stereo and a sea of hands stuffed thousands of goodies into plastic baggies – a tangible gesture that will find its way to U.S. soldiers stationed far, far away from home.

GECA student named National Merit Finalist

Nishant Desai, a senior at the Dr. TJ Owens Early College Academy - an alternative high school located on the campus of Gavilan College on 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. - was named a National Merit Finalist this week.

GUSD releases budget cut recommendations

The Gilroy Unified School District has posted its budget cut recommendations for the 2012-13 school year. Items on the table include a spending freeze; adult education; elementary music and P.E.; home-to-school transportation; class size increases; implementing a freeze on column increases; reducing the work year and across-the-board salary reductions.

32nd Annual Cioppino Feed & Dance: It’s coming

The Gilroy High School Athletic Association will host its 32nd annual Crab Cioppino Feed, Dance and Auction at 4:30 p.m. May 12 at Christopher Ranch at 305 Bloomfield Avenue in Gilroy. This popular event attracts people from throughout the Bay Area – approximately 1,000 attended in 2011.
