driving-under-the-influence and driver’s license checkpoint on
eastbound Leavesley Road between Monterey Road and Murray Avenue,

“We still consider this a success because of the public awareness campaign,” said Sgt. Chad Gallacinao Tuesday morning.
At the DUI checkpoint that began Saturday at 8 p.m. and ended at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, 1,129 vehicles drove through, while 548 were screened and given a flier with DUI education and checked by GPD for a valid driver’s license.
Twenty-two citations were given to unlicensed drivers, three citations were handed out to drivers with a suspended license, and one person was cited for an outstanding traffic warrant.
Gallacinao said police officers made contact with “numerous people who were designated drivers.”
“Hopefully all the public awareness is paying off,” Gallacinao said.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration, according to the GPD.
