Gilroy Needs New Leadership at the Top in the Mayor’s Chair
Dear Editor,
I second the letter published by Debbie Bradshaw Sept. 19. She is so right when she addressed Mayor Al Pinheiro and said: “I came to City Hall meetings hoping to get help with the conversion of our mobile home park to condominiums. What help did we get? None! We 175 residents are a virtual island in the city of Gilroy, getting no assistance. You ran scared with your tail between your legs and left us stranded.”
Pacific Mobile Home Estates on West 10th Street may be an island be We are a part of Gilroy.
It’s way past time Gilroy voters get fork, shovel and broom and have a good old-fashioned political house cleaning at City Hall – from the top down! Voters need to get behind Councilman Craig Gartman and those like him to bring our great city of Gilroy back to where it was.

Candidate Isn’t on the Fence in Mayoral Race: Pinheiro Gets the Nod
Dear Editor,
I would appreciate the opportunity to respond to an article published last week in The Gilroy Dispatch. I want to make it clear that I fully and enthusiastically support Al Pinheiro for Mayor of Gilroy – and that I have never stated otherwise. I can only assume the information printed in your article was accurate reporting by your team and thus, the person quoted in your article misspoke on my behalf.
I appreciate the chance to clearly state my position: I respect Mayor Al Pinheiro for his bridge-building abilities, proven track record of leadership and his fair-minded, open door policy. That is why I ask Gilroy residents to see through the current “political grandstanding” and join me in voting Al Pinheiro for mayor.
Cat Tucker, candidate for Gilroy City Council
Column Giving the Muslim Perspective Sincerely Appreciated
Dear Editor,
Thank you so much for publishing Sal Akhter’s (9/22) response to Cynthia Walker’s column linking many legitimate Muslim organizations to terrorist organizations, or the support of terrorist organizations.
Articles like hers are potentially very dangerous given the state of near panic in this nation about “Muslims taking over.”
Many people seemed to have lost all sense of perspective these days and fear has taken over their rational thinking. Unfortunately, many people are willing to believe the exact types of things that Ms. Walker wrote about without checking it out, or thinking twice about it.
