Dear Editor,

The latest ranting by liberal left-winger Marc Perkel (letters, April 9) should demonstrate to any reasonable sane person that Perkel suffers from a severe case of liberal myopic dysfunction disorder (LMDD).

Let’s hope Perkel can get cured under Obamacare, while finally coming to realize that this kind of “change and hope” is just one more big screw of the American taxpayer as the Democrats march America into full-blown socialism.

Columnist swallowed the $18 vehicle park fee bait hook, line and sinker

Dear Editor,

You should have printed Ron Erskine’s (April 9) State parks article on April 1; he has clearly been fooled if he truly believes that “parks would be forever removed from the uncertain budget process.”

The false promise goes like this: If we agree to give the state $18 per vehicle per year forever forward, we will get free day use to the overrated parks. Just a year ago they doubled our vehicle registration “fee” (property tax on cars); why don’t they take the $18 out of that?

If this con job succeeds, the first year or two there will probably indeed be free day use.

Then when Sacramento declares its annual “emergency,” they will divert funds. It is the usual bait and switch! They will subsequently hit each park-entry vehicle with a $1 “fee.” Oh, it’s just a dollar, they’ll tell us. Dupes like Erskine will parrot it. And the voters will have been conned again. (But the precious state employees will remain at their unsustainable benefit and retirement levels.)

The dumbest part of the article was the comparison to Disneyland, skiing, golf, and the movies. Such entities are paid for by those who use them; those who do not are not forced to subsidize the hobbies (entertainment) of those who do.

The solution is to charge the park users what it costs to run it, and if it’s not worth it, close it! And Erskine is just plain wrong in stating that they are not a luxury; he can go take a long hike off a short pier.

Thankful for members of Congress who voted for health care reform

Dear Editor,

I am so thankful to our representatives who fought for and finally voted and passed the Health Care Reform Law. I am happy for the entire country.

Though I have a job with great health insurance and I happen to be in excellent health, I frequently thought it inhumane to have to hope I never lose my job for fear of not having health insurance.

I know this was a tough vote for many, especially given what our representatives were up against: the hyperbole, demagoguery, propaganda and downright lies by those on the right.

At times when I read or heard what was being dished out by certain cable “news” channels, I felt like I was in a bad science fiction film.

Finally, Insurance companies will not be able to act with impunity; it really feels like the 21st century now, instead of the 19th.
