Ocalee Solona Webb Smith, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004.
Mrs. Webb, a devout Christian, left behind a legacy of love, kindness and compassion.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1906, in Lowndes County, Ga. She was a simple farm girl and grew into a great woman made rich by her love of our Lord. During her 97 years, Mrs. Smith loved to tell the stories of her life and taught generations of family through example and humility. In today’s world, where expectations are so different, she told many stories that reflected this humility. Mrs. Smith would tell the story of her favorite Christmas when as a young girl her gifts were an apple and walnuts and how thrilled she was with the beautiful, perfect apple and cracking those walnuts.
She was preceded in death by many loved family members and friends and her husband, Talmage, and her beloved son Edward. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Thomas Smith and wife Pamela, of Castro Valley, Katherine and husband Stephen, of San Martin, and Laurie and husband Glen, of Camp Lejeune, N.C. Her life was blessed with 12 great grand-children, eight great, great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Mary Jane Smith David and her beloved Terry and family.
Friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life to be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy officiated by Pastor L. Baker. Interment will immediately follow at Skylawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Smith was a member for many years of the First Baptist Church of Cupertino. In later years, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Gilroy, and when she moved in with her grandson Tom and family she became a member of First Baptist Church in Hayward.
