It’s birthday one hundred for sweet Dr. Seuss.
He wrote many books and never wore puce.
The worlds he invented were very neat.
It started with something he saw on Mulberry Street.

So, if you have read about the Zans who open cans,
Or what would happen to zoos that the doc ran,
You need to thank our good Dr. Seuss,
For he wrote all of them and that’s the truth.
Once Dr. Seuss said, “Oh the things you can think!”
I can think like a Thinker-Upper, only I wear pink.
Or maybe I can thunk like a Glunk.
It’s very important to know how you think what you’ve thunk.
Do you like Green Eggs and Ham?
Or are you more like Sam I Am?
He would not eat them in a car,
Or in a tree or away very far.
And then there was the Cat in the Hat.
He thought that he was really all that.
But to the fish the cat was very rude,
That fish did not think the Cat was a cool dude.
Speaking of fish – some old, some new.
And circus fish, catfish and Eskimo fish, too.
There were even some Australian fish.
But unlike an Ish, they can’t wish a fish wish while
carrying a dish.
And have you ever ridden a Wump?
They make you go bump, bump.
I’ve even heard that the seven hump Wump
Makes you go bump, bump, bump.
There were Sneetches – plain bellied and star bellied, too.
And Dr. Seuss said, “there’s no difference ‘tween the two!”
Sure, one had a star and one a belly that was plain,
But inside the Sneetches were all the same.
Have you ever read the Foot Book?
It has many feet in it, although none can cook.
There are feet to our left and some to our right
Oh the feet we can meet, on the street if we might.
Sometimes the doctor asked us, what would we do?
If we met up with a Jibboo?
Would we run?
Or find a Who?
If you find yourself on the Island of Sala-ma-sound,
Look for Yertle the Turtle, he should be around.
Or maybe you are visiting sunny Italy,
You can sleep in, Dr. Seuss said indifferently.
Or maybe you just want to be in your yard,
There’s a game you can play, it’s not very hard.
You can play it right in the back.
It’s a great game, called Ring the Gack.
And just once in your life, get up and hop.
Or take ride on a
Ham-ikka-Schnim-ikka-Schnam-ikka-Schnopp.
Or maybe you want to moo like Mr. Brown.
He can tick and he can tock all over town.
Do these crazy things that you do
And let your friends do them too.
Because you are only old once, so they say.
And this week marks Dr. Suess’s 100th birthday.
