An off-duty Santa Clara County Sheriff deputy arrested a San Jose man who was following women and secretly taping them inside the Safeway store on Dunne Avenue in Morgan Hill, according to Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
When police arrived about 5:10 p.m. Thursday, they found the deputy, Sgt. Nuno Ribeiro, and an unnamed Gilroy resident holding down 31-year-old Juan Rodriguez, according to a Morgan Hill police press release. Ribeiro told Morgan Hill police that while he was shopping he noticed Rodriguez behaving strangely. He continued to watch and noticed Ribeiro concealing a small video camera under a box in his hand. The deputy watched Rodriguez follow several women and hold the camera at different angles to record the women’s breasts and buttocks without them knowing.
After Ribeiro told someone to call 911, he identified himself as a sheriff deputy and told him he was under arrest. Rodriguez tried to flee, but after a short struggle – and with the help of the Gilroy resident – he was detained.
Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of concealing a camera for sexual gratification and battery on a peace officer. He was booked in county jail. A video camera was found in his pocket and taken as evidence.
