Hollister’s San Benito Oriana Chorale will present Handel’s “Messiah” in Mission San Juan Bautista. The Chorale presents the “Messiah” each year.
This 2004-2005 concert season is under the direction of Robin McKee Williams. For the concert at the Mission, McKee Williams has chosen eight of the oratorios from “The Messiah” including the well known “Hallelujah” chorus. For the first half of the concert, McKee Williams has chosen to present a work by Joseph M. Martin called “Morning Star.”
The chorale is in its 19th year. It was founded in 1985 by a Scottish woman living in Hollister who named the chorus after Queen Elizabeth I. The Queen was a patron of the arts and was called Oriana by those who loved her.
The Oriana Chorale also has a spring show that features a wide variety of music from classical to Broadway, and one of the chorus’ newest spring venues is a dinner-show at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. The Chorale can also be seen in the Hollister area throughout the concert season, appearing at many of the local service clubs and performing concerts at two convalescent nursing facilities where they sing music taken from their current concert program.
The concert dates for the “Messiah” are Dec. 7 and 8, and the program starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for teens, and children under 12 are admitted free. For more information, call (831) 637-2848.
