Morgan Hill – A thrilling run of success in State Cup play ended for the Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League’s Toros U11 girls soccer team on Saturday.
The Toros, hampered by illness, dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the River City/Sacramento Lady Boca in Turlock.
But for Coach Kevin Dunwoodie and his team, Saturday’s loss couldn’t dampen a fine season that saw the local team win three tourney titles, finish second in the OVYSL Abronzino division and compete in its first State Cup.
“That is a great achievement for them to have done,” Dunwoodie said. “We didn’t do as well (Saturday) as we were hoping but it was a good game.”
Dunwoodie said the team was struck with sickness last week, and one player missed the match while three others played ill. According to the Toros coach, the team created plenty of good scoring opportunities but couldn’t quite convert.
