Both teams win finales, face off in winner-take-all-game

GILROY – The Playaz and Las Animas Sweepers completed the Men’s CC League’s first half with wins Monday at Las Animas Park, forcing a tie-breaker to determine the half’s champion.

The Sweepers (5-1) opened the twinbill with a 19-12 decision over South County Rockery & Building Materials, overcoming a 10-8 deficit after three innings.

The Playaz (5-1) followed with a 20-4 nod over Malibu Heating & Air Conditioning.

The Sweepers and Playaz meet at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at Las Animas Park, following the 7:30 p.m. showdown between M&M’s and Dutchman’s Pizza for the Women’s C first-half title.

Kevin Orozco hit three home runs and Donny Gooding slapped one as the Sweepers outlasted South County Rockery. Dave Meacham went 4-for-4 and Mark Rodriguez homered for the losers.

Al Rivera went 4-for-4 and Daniel DeLeon went 4-for-5 as the Playaz primed for the playoff. Juan Sarmiento and Robert Martinez each went 3-for-3 for Malibu Heating.

No Soup 4 You completed the CC half with a 21-18 nod over In The Zone. The Soup snapped a 15-15 tie with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Jason Luna and Ralph Ortez hit Soup homers. Vince Lopez homered in a 4-for-5 night for the Zone.

Countryside Daycare Center powered past the Dirty Dozen 26-12 Monday at Gavilan Sports Park to leave both teams at 5-1 atop the Men’s CCC League. The teams squared off Tuesday night at Christmas Hill for the first-half title.

Albert Alosi carried the Countryside attack with five hits. Kris Ferguson went 4-for-6 and scored four Countryside runs. John DeCarlo Jr. drove in six runs with four hits. Ricky Salinas and Art Naranjo homered in the Dirty Dozen third inning.

Extreme Air Poor Boys defeated the Desperados 16-10. Abie Espinosa homered and Gary Perry, Art Del Valle and Joe Vasquez each went 4-for-4 for the winners. Phil Clark hit a three-run triple and John Lango went 3-for-4 for the Desperados.

Mike Peternal went 5-for-5, David Jackson 4-for-5 in a 22-0 Morgan Hill Bible Church win over Victory Outreach.
