Law enforcement officers arrested two men for parole violations Tuesday as part of an area compliance check of registered sex offenders in Gilroy and unincorporated Santa Clara County, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Christopher James Soto, 31, and Erik Bech Laursen, 39, were arrested during afternoon and evening checks of 27 individuals, 16 of which were parole or probation checks, according to a GPD press release.

Laursen is not a sex offender but was a parolee at large contacted by police as a result of a check with a parolee who was a registered sex offender, according to police. He was taken into custody in the 12400 block of Columbet Drive. The GPD listed an Aptos residence as his address.

Soto, a transient, is a registered sex offender and was arrested at 5:06 p.m. in the 5500 block of Monterey Road.

Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, GPD Officer Amanda Stanford said.

Police said warrant requests were being prepared for at least two other individuals.

The regional sweep was conducted by officials from the GPD, the Sexual Assault and Felony Enforcement Team from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and parole agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

California Department of Justice figures reveal there are 142 registered sex offenders living in the 95020 area code, the majority of which reside within the city limits of Gilroy, according to the press release.
