Police hunt intruder who startles woman

MORGAN HILL

Police are looking for a man who broke into a 70-year-old Morgan Hill woman’s house Wednesday morning and reportedly stared at her while she slept.

The woman described the intruder as a clean-shaven white male in his early 20s with a round face, dark hair, wearing a white T-shirt and faded pants, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.

The woman screamed when she saw the suspect in her bedroom at approximately 9:30 a.m. and grabbed her phone to call 911. Perhaps guessing her intent, the suspect ran from the bedroom, then left the home through a screen door in the back of the home on Llagas Road.

“What it looks like is that he may have entered the house with the intent to burglarize it, but not realizing that anyone was home,” Swing said. “When he saw someone there, he got spooked and ran.”

Nothing was taken from the house, he said, and the woman was not injured.

Shortly after police received the call, an officer was in the area of Llagas Creek, which runs behind the woman’s home, and thought he spotted someone in or around the creek. When he reported it over the radio, because of the description and the area, he returned to the area and saw a silver Honda Prelude speeding east on Llagas Road.

Police want to find the Prelude, Swing said, but are not positive the suspect left in the vehicle.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect sketch or has information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Kevin Beilmann at (408) 776-7323.
