Police say a man provided his credit card number just before midnight Aug. 10 to a woman he was on a date with because she needed it to pay a $55 phone bill, according to a Gilroy Police Department weekly press report.
The next day, however, police said the man discovered his card had been abused, claiming the woman rang up an additional $155 payment using his card.
Suspects swipe groceries, flee in stolen van
Two suspects filled their carts with nearly $1,000 worth of groceries from the Gilroy First Street Safeway store then made off in a stolen van around 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
The suspects, who are still at large, grabbed $964.21 worth of food and other items before fleeing in the van, which had been reported stolen in San Jose, police said.
The vehicle is described as a 1997 white Nissan, according to the GPD.
Gun stolen from vehicle
Police say an unknown number of suspects stole a firearm and two loaded magazines from an unlocked car on Church Street Friday afternoon.
The gun, a silver and black, 9mm Smith & Wesson, was taken from a parked BMW vehicle around 2 p.m. Aug. 12. The stolen magazines were loaded with 10 rounds, according to police.
