Robbery by machete

Three unknown Hispanic males, one brandishing a machete, approached a man late Friday night near Church and Ninth streets and robbed him of $35, police said. The unnamed victim was walking with another man, who walked away upon the confrontation. The robbed man later told police he was walking “to the movies” with his friend when the suspects approached them about 11:50 p.m. The last movie to play at Platinum Theatres near Monterey and 10th streets Friday was at 9:35 p.m.

“It’s unclear why the suspects only approached this one person, but there’s nothing to indicate this was gang-related,” Sgt. Jim Gillio said.

There was no violence involved, and the only weapon the suspects produced was the machete, Gillio said.

Mom turns daughter in for having marijuana

A mother discovered nearly two ounces of marijuana in a bag belonging to her daughter Saturday afternoon and instead of confiscating the pot and slapping her child on the wrist, the woman called the authorities. Police took the drugs the juvenile had and destroyed them. Gillio said police will likely issue the girl, who lives along Adams Court, a citation in the near future.

Where’s my food?

Apparently annoyed by having to wait in the drive-through line at 2 a.m. Sunday at Jack in the Box near the intersection of Monterey and First streets, Jaime Gonzalez, 21, decided to honk his horn and rev the engine of his 1990 Acura Integra to hurry the customer in front of him. Instead, the earlier patron called police, who showed up minutes later and arrested Gonzalez – who was still waiting in line – for driving under the influence. Gonzalez did not threaten the customer or the staff and did not damage any property before police arrived. It was also unclear what Gonzalez had ordered.

Attack at Saint Louise

A 37-year-old man lashed out against emergency room staff at Saint Louise Regional Hospital Sunday afternoon after being admitted to the hospital for an unspecified reason. Police believed the man was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Hospital staff called police when the man jumped up from where they had put him and refused to comply with orderlies. Police arrived shortly thereafter and found the man outside the emergency room with blood on both arms. He allegedly refused to comply with police orders, so officers displayed, but did not use, electronic stun guns before two officers forced the man to the ground. Afterward, they strapped him into a gurney to continue his unspecified treatment. Police cited and released him for being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Borrowing a bass guitar and some beers

An unknown number of suspects broke into a home along the 7900 block of Carmel about 8:15 Saturday and stole two cell phones, a bass guitar, and two Miller High Lifes. A few hours later, an unknown number of suspects invited to a party along the 6400 block of Sussex Place entered unlocked rooms in the house and stole nearly $10,000 worth of diamond rings, watches, make-up, iPods, cameras and video games. The hosts noticed two days later and then called police.

BUI

An officer driving near Princevalle Street about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday morning noticed Gerardo Rico, 21, walking with his bike and then suddenly falling over. The officer arrested him for drunk in public.

“Now that’s what we call a self-surrender,” Gillio said.
