Pit bull kills Chihuahua: On May 13 at 3:35 p.m., witnesses reported that a male pit bull mix of the 8100 block of Springdale Court attacked and killed a neighbor Chihuahua. Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said it appeared that neither dog was on a leash. The owner of the pit bull surrendered the dog to be euthanized after the incident.
Double whammy: Burglary and auto theft
On May 16 between 11 a.m. and 3:20 p.m., a suspect entered a residence on the 6500 block of Princevalle Street through an unsecured sliding window.  Police reported that the home was ransacked and the resident’s wallet was stolen along with various game systems and video games totaling more than $1,250. On the way out, suspects stole the victim’s vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, from his driveway.
Woman causes scene at hospital
Ariana Rae Messina, 19, was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after causing a disturbance at Saint Louise Regional Hospital. At 11:30 p.m. on May 16, Messina showed up to the hospital, yelled at hospital staff, then locked herself in a bathroom and refused to come out. When police arrived, she emerged reluctantly, but argued with police and refused to leave. When she eventually began to leave, police told her not to return. An hour later, at 12:45 a.m. on May 17, Messina came back and banged on hospital doors trying to get in. After she allegedly resisted arrest, police took her to Santa Clara County Jail. Gallacinao said there is nothing indicating that Messina was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Senior citizen busted for begging
An 88-year-old Gilroy man, Elias Gallegos, was arrested for begging at the intersection of Gilroy Crossing and Camino Arroyo on May 17 at 4:28 p.m. Gallegos, who police say had been warned before, was issued a citation that afternoon.
Two steal polo shirts, escape in BMW
On May 17 at 2:24 p.m., unknown male suspects in their late 20s allegedly entered Nautica at the Gilroy Premium Outlets, and stole 50 polo shirts concealed in a bag, valued at $2,200. After leaving the store, the two men hopped in a silver BMW sports car and drove away before police arrived on the scene.
Felon in possession of stolen gun
On May 17 at 10:29 p.m., police pulled over the driver of a GMC Yukon for expired registration on Church Street. The rear passenger, 24-year-old Andrew Garcia, tried to pose as someone else to avoid his felony warrant. Garcia was also found in possession of gloves, a shaved key, a flashlight, and a stolen semi-automatic pistol. The driver, 34-year-old Elichaba Ruiz, was also arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, because police say Garcia passed it to her while police pulled them over. Garcia and Ruiz were both taken to the Santa Clara County Jail.
