Man arrested for cocaine sales

At 2:54 p.m. on Aug. 16, 19-year-old Daniel Silva of Gilroy was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana for sale after he was allegedly found by police to have 19 grams of cocaine, more than 17.5 ounces of marijuana, 2.5 grams of hashish, as well as packaging material, a digital scale and $2,300 in cash. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.

Library bathroom tagged with paint

At 4:50 p.m. on Aug.16, a Gilroy librarian called to report that the wall of the men’s bathroom had been tagged with black spray paint. Surveillance videos show two juvenile males walking out of the bathroom during the time the incident occurred. Suspects have not been identified, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.

Truck stolen from Southside Drive

A 1988 blue Toyota truck with a license plate of 3P15818 was stolen from the 500 block of Southside Drive sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 13. Suspects are unknown.

More patrols out for start of school

With the school year beginning today, the Gilroy Police Department will be devoting extra officers to enforce traffic safety in school zones, based on the Safe Routes to School federal grant the City obtained in 2008. Officers will be focused on vehicle code violations within school zones, such as double parking, illegal turning maneuvers, speeding, impeding traffic, jaywalking, cellular telephone violations and distracted driving violations.
