Police briefs: Meth arrests

Drugs, particularly methamphetamine, appear to be taking up a large portion of recent Gilroy arrests. Here are a few events: 

18-year-old allegedly found with meth

Victor Ochoa, 18-year-old Gilroy resident was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after officers saw him running in the area of Lewis and Chestnut Streets at 12:19 a.m. on Aug. 9. Ochoa consented to a search of his bags and police say they found a quarter of a gram of methamphetamine. He was arrested and taken to Santa Clara County Jail. 

Police say man on drugs refuses to leave burger joint

At 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, police received a report that a man refused to leave the property after scaring customers at Juicy Burger on Church Street. When police arrived, the man, Raymond Shorb, a 44-year-old transient with Gilroy ties, was noncompliant. Shorb was allegedly found with 2 grams of meth, and was arrested for trespassing and possession of narcotics, and was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.   

Drug burglary at Wal-Mart

A female between 55 and 65 years old entered Walmart at 9:23 p.m. on Aug. 10 and motioned to a possible weapon in her pocket to the pharmacy clerk, and demanded the clerk for narcotics. The woman stole more than $1,000 in prescription drugs, including Fentanyl – a pain killer more potent than Morphine. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. 

Meth found on Gilroy man

Tino Fayard, 44-year-old Gilroy resident, was arrested when police showed up to a Gilroy residence at 10:34 p.m. on Aug. 10 for a probation check, and allegedly found Fayard (who was not the person they came to check on) with 3.5 grams of meth. He was arrested for possession of narcotics and taken to Santa Clara County Jail. 

Combative transient arrested behind 7-Eleven

A sleeping male behind the 7-Eleven on First Street was contacted by police, when he became combative with officers who awoke him. Police say he was holding a couple of knives on his chest, and when police attempted to disarm him, he physically resisted them. The man, Isaac Diaz, 19-year-old transient with Gilroy ties, was placed in a wrapping device by police and taken to Santa Clara County Jail for being under the influence of meth, resisting arrest, possession of a narcotics pipe and for an outstanding warrant.
