Two people were arrested with a pound of marijuana in their car after police saw them smoking a joint outside a downtown restaurant, authorities said.
Morgan Hill police officers on routine patrol saw a suspicious vehicle parked outside Champs Bar & Grill, 17330 Monterey Rd., about 1:27 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, according to Sgt. Troy Hoefling. Â
As officers approached the vehicle, which was occupied by five people, they notices what appeared to be marijuana smoke coming out of a slightly-open window, Hoefling said. The officers saw the occupant in the driver’s seat throw a lit marijuana cigarette out the driver’s-side window.Â
Police made contact with the occupant and found about 20 grams of marijuana in the car’s glove compartment, police said. Upon further search, officers found another pound of marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle.Â
Two occupants of the vehicle told police the marijuana was theirs, Hoefling said. Richard Godinez, 22, and Briana Torres, 19, both of Morgan Hill, were arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation of marijuana for sales. They were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.Â
