Dear Editor,

I am really sad to hear about the low numbers of fire personnel, and look at the huge number of dollars spent on “The Citadel” for the Gilroy Police Department. How many residents have gone by to see the out-of-place monster?

City Hall is so nice, and then, they get a fort next door. It is too bad.

And the fire department workers are our first line in public help aide and assistance. What would we do if they were all busy, and a medical problem arose? (Yes, I have first-responder training, but how many do?)

I keep thinking about the young man who broke his neck in the recent bicycle accident … what would have happened to him? He has a life-changing accident, and goes to the hospital by helicopter, but the fire department does the first-rescue stuff. He will have a long and difficult road ahead in the head-and-neck Injury center of Valley Medical Center. ( My dog and I used to be a Furry Friends volunteer team there.)
