GILROY – California Highway Patrol officers are looking for a driver who fled Wednesday night after crashing a pickup truck near two southeast Gilroy labor camps.

The driver left an injured passenger in the truck, Sirilo Vasquez, 58, of Gilroy. A CALSTAR helicopter flew Vasquez to San Jose Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition at noon Thursday. He was wearing a seat belt, the CHP reported.

According to a CHP report, the driver has been described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, wearing a black jacket with “Homies” written on the back and blue jeans. He also had a large gash above his nose.

The 1993 Ford F-150 truck hit a fence and a concrete barrier at 10:35 p.m. on Southside Drive, east of Rossi Lane, according to CHP. Officers suspect the driver may have been impaired by alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash.

The crash is half a mile from a curve where a driver went off the road and crashed into a set of power-pole support cables Aug. 3. That driver also fled the scene. Police have contacted the registered owner of the Oldsmobile sedan, who said he had sold the car. Police are not trying to locate the driver.
