Police arrested a man after he stole beer from a Gilroy grocery store then robbed two people at a fast food drive-thru, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
According to the GPD, Steven Joseph Johnson, 21, stole an unknown amount of beer Thursday night from a Safeway store on First Street then accosted three victims as they pulled into a drive-thru of a Taco Bell restaurant.
As one woman left the drive-thru, Johnson put his hand in his waistband and demanded money from the victim, police said. The victim fled and called police.
Johnson displayed what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband to a second person who came through the drive-thru and demanded she give him money. She gave Johnson her money and also fled and called police, according to the GPD.
Police said as a third victim sat in the drive-thru, Johnson put a gun to her head and ordered her out of the vehicle. She immediately began screaming, causing Johnson to reach in an attempt to take her cell phone. She was able to escape, and Johnson fled from the scene, according to the GPD.
Just after 1 a.m. Friday, Johnson was spotted in the Safeway store again, and police were called to the scene. Johnson was arrested for armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and attempted carjacking, according to the GPD.
