Gilroy – Two teens were arrested at Gilroy High School at 2:18am Monday morning, charged with ransacking desks in three campus portables.

Gilroy police responded to burglary alarms at the high school, and spotted three people walking away from the portables. Officers ordered the people to stop, but the suspects fled on foot across the fields south of the school. Two were caught; a third, unknown suspect escaped.

Police searched the three buildings and found no property taken. Several desks had been ransacked, and the burglars apparently tried to enter several other campus portables without success. The burglary is the second to hit Gilroy High School in a month: Between March 22 and March 23, cash, a laptop and CDs were stolen from campus portables. The burglars apparently broke in through the portables’ windows.

“It’s still under investigation,” said Cpl. Justin Matsuhara, “but there’s a high probability that [the burglaries] are linked.”

The two 15-year-olds were charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools, said Cpl. Justin Matsuhara. As juvenile suspects, their names were not released by police.

Anyone with information on the case may call officer Drew Viale at 846-0350.
