The Gilroy Police Department responded to an attempted murder at approximately 1:34 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a man with a gun near the area of 985 Monte Bello Drive in Gilroy.

Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, another caller advised there was a subject that had been shot in the parking lot. Police located the gunshot victim in the parking lot and transported him to a Bay Area trauma center.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male between the ages of 20 and 25 and wielding a shotgun, according to GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld, is described as a 21-year-old Hispanic male. Sgt. Gallacinao said Monday morning the victim has undergone medical treatment and is expected to survive.

Police believe the act might be gang-related.
