Police are searching for an unknown number of men who allegedly beat and stabbed three young males in north Gilroy while yelling gang slogans, according to police.
The 19-, 22- and 23-year-old victims, whose names police withheld, drove themselves to a local hospital to receive treatment for what police described as “severe” but non-life threatening injuries, according to a press release. The unknown assailants used “stabbing instruments” to attack the victims about 3 a.m. Saturday and they yelled gang-related phrases during the assault near the intersection of Westwood Drive and Driftwood Terrace. The assailants fled after the attack.
Officers responded to the scene and recovered undisclosed evidence after hearing about the victims’ arrival at the hospital, according to the press release. Neither witnesses nor the victims reported the crime.
“The motivation for the aggravated assault (attempted murder) is believed to be gang related and the case is being handled by the (Gilroy Police) Department’s Anti-Crime Team,” Sgt. Chad Gallacinao wrote. “The investigation into the incident is on-going.”
