18-year-old girl returned safely home 16 hours later, but police
still searching for boyfriend
Gilroy – Maria Sirret disappeared for more than 16 hours beginning Monday night, and police are still trying to find out exactly what happened. She says she is fine. But from what witnesses told police, it didn’t appear that way at the time.
Sirret, 18, was pushed into her ex-boyfriend’s car as she left work at Johnny Carino’s about 11pm, witnesses told police. The car sped away, leaving skid marks, and disappeared over Pacheco Pass.
“We’re still looking for the suspect in the case,” said Gilroy Police Sgt. Noel Provost. “We’re still investigating things as if it was a kidnapping. The case is still very open.”
Omar Montesinos, 22, had an on-and-off relationship with Sirret for the past four years. He is who witnesses identified as shoving Sirret into the Nissan Altima.
Sirret contacted her mother using her cell phone shortly after the incident occurred and said she would be home in a while, police said.
She was dropped off at home about 3pm Tuesday.
According to police, she was uninjured and said she was not the victim of any crime.
“Hearing the witnesses’ stories it certainly does appear that something happened,” Provost said. “Hearing her talk to the detectives … this is how he and she have a relationship.”
Montesinos is still wanted for questioning by police. He is described as 5-foot, 11-inches, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who sees him is asked to contact police at 846-0368.
“We don’t know and we won’t know what happened until we talk to him,” Provost said.
