Four suspects were arrested for marijuana cultivation at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on the 5900 block of Obata Way in Gilroy as they were leaving the “indoor garden,” police described in a press release sent out today.
Several community members and businesses contacted detectives from the Gilroy Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team regarding what they believed to be an indoor marijuana cultivation operation, according to police. The area on the 5900 block of Obata Way is an “industrial complex with a nondescript storefront,” officers say. Detectives launched an investigation, confirmed the tips they had received and presented the evidence to a Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge, who authorized a search warrant.
During a search of the premises, detectives located a “sophisticated” indoor marijuana cultivation operation, which included several small trailers erected inside the approximate 6,000-square-foot facility. The trailers housed marijuana in varying stages of processing, in addition to chemicals and other related materials, according to police. Detectives seized records, evidence and a total of nearly 250 pounds of “useable” pot, the press release states.
The arrested suspects include Harry Sorensen, 70, his son, Harry M. Sorensen, 35, Daniel A. Genovese, 37, of San Jose; and Theodore J. Borns, 57, from Campbell. Pictures of the suspects will be posted shortly.
The investigation will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and filing of criminal charges once it is completed.
