SALINAS—Three Christopher High hoopers have reached All-Star status.
Seniors Chad Hartman and Dillon Day, along with Teresa Guerra were selected to North boys and girls squads, respectively, for the 8th Annual North-South High School All-Star Basketball Classic, sponsored by the Salinas Steinbeck Rotary Club. The Classic is scheduled for April 10 at the Boys & Girls Club in Salinas. The girls game is slated for a 6 p.m. tip-off, while the boys are expected to take the floor at 7 p.m.
The Classic includes top-graduating seniors from the Tri-County area of Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey. It is a college-format basketball game and is the first opportunity for these athletes to play this style.
Anjelica Collins and Denise Martinez, of San Benito, were also named to the North girls team. They will be coached by Rick Silver of Scotts Valley High School. Joe Smith from Aptos High School will lead the North boys.
Oakwood School in Morgan Hill saw Nate Schilling and Justin Mortensen named to the South boys team. Anzars’ John Moreno also made the South boys team, which will be coached by Jens Uwe-Gordon from Salinas High.
Proceeds from the Classic go to the Sunrise House, a youth/family counseling and crisis center in Salinas, as well as to the Boys & Girls Club of Salinas.
