Christopher won its third straight game Tuesday and now has a winning record for the first time this season.Â
After winning two straight against San Benito last week, the Cougars beat Monterey 9-5 at home. They are now 10-9 overall, 6-5 in league play.Â
Christopher led 6-0—scoring a run in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth—heading into the top of the fifth. The Toreadores put up a four-spot in the fifth and the home team answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-4.Â
Monterey added one more in the top of the sixth, but that’s all it could muster up. The Cougars, on the other hand, scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning for the final.Â
Bryan Easton was stellar on the mound. He allowed five runs—zero earned—on six hits, while striking out four and walking one in seven innings. He was solid at the plate, too. He drove in two RBIs on two hits and scored a run.
Gordy Papalias led the Cougars with two RBIs and two runs on three hits—including a triple. Makaio Duyao was 2 for 3 and also had two RBIs and scored a run.Â
Anthony Rodriguez went 1 for 3 for Christopher and racked up three runs.Â
The two teams will square off again today at 4 p.m. at the Sollecito Baseball Diamond in Monterey.Â
Cowboys win by walk-off over Gilroy
Salinas topped Gilroy by a walk-off to win 3-2 Tuesday in Salinas.Â
Both teams scored two runs in the fifth inning to be locked in a 2-2 tie.Â
The Mustangs’ ace, Justin Hale, was stellar once again but couldn’t get the job done. He pitched 7.1 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits. He struck out three and walked one.Â
Alex Benavides was brought in for relief and was handed the loss. He gave up a run on two hits and struck out two.Â
Benavides and Jimmy Lemberger each had an RBI on a hit for the Mustangs. Jon Jon Castro and Daniel Colmer scored the runs.Â
Gilroy (5-15 overall, 2-9 in league) look to rebound in their 4 p.m. contest today against Salinas at home.Â
