Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher boys soccer team won its regular season finale 2-1 Thursday over Seaside on the road. 
Alan Hermosillo got Christopher on the board in the 30th minute, scoring his fifth goal of the season. 
Brian Cuevas netted the game winner in the 74th for Christopher.
The Cougars (6-7-4 overall, 5-3-4 in league play) now wait to see if their season will be extended when the seedings for the Central Coast Section Tournament and announced Sunday. Check back with the Gilroy Dispatch for seedings, time and dates of playoff games.
Gilroy ties with Alisal
The Mustangs recorded their first tie of the season—and it happened to be in their last game. 
Gilroy tied with Alisal 1-1 in the regular season finale Thursday at home. 
Both teams scored in the second half. Fernando Lares netted the goal for the Mustangs—his 10th of the year—off an assist from Efren Pineda. 
Gilroy finished the season 7-11-1 overall, 4-8-1 in league play. 
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Christopher falls to MVC
The Christopher girls lost a thriller to Monte Vista Christian Thursday, falling 58-52 in its home and regular season finale. 
Senior Teresa Guerra posted a career-high 25 points for the Cougars in her final game on her home court. Both Trinity Stark and Christa Arroyo added 10 points a piece.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Palma tops Christopher
Christopher fell to the undefeated Palma Chieftains 62-42 Wednesday on the road. 
The Chieftains took a 10-point lead, 31-21, into halftime and never looked back. They held all but one Cougar shooter to single digits. 
Dillon Day led Christopher with 13 points, including two 3-pointers. Chad Hartman added nine points and Xander Bowers posted seven. 
The Cougars (15-8 overall, 5-6 in league) will close out the regular season at 7 p.m. tonight at Monterey. 
Alisal bests Gilroy
Gilroy trailed by only eight points at halftime during its contest against Alisal Wednesday, but the Trojans pulled away in the second half. 
Alisal beat the Mustangs 69-54 at Gilroy High, outscoring them by seven points. 
Stats for Gilroy were not yet available. 
The Mustangs (4-19 overall, 2-9 in league) will close out their season at 7 p.m. tonight against Watsonville at home.
GIRLS SOCCER
Cougars edged by Balers
Christopher hosted San Benito for its regular season finale Wednesday, but were edged 3-2 by the visitors. 
Stats and scoring from this game were not yet available. 
The Cougars (6-10-1 overall, 4-6-1 in league) will close out the regular at 5:45 p.m. today at Gilroy High.
Mustangs lose to Cowboys
Gilroy fell 1-0 to Salinas Wednesday on the road. 
The win clinched the league championship for the Cowboys. 
Melissa Chin scored for Salinas in the 53rd minute for the win. 
The Mustangs (6-10-2 overall, 5-4-2 in league) look to keep their season alive when they host Christopher at 5:45 p.m. today in the regular season finale.
