Gilroy Mustangs

Christopher picked up its first win since Dec. 9 as it cruised past Monterey 3-1 at home Thursday. 
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead at half thanks to Johnnie Rojas scoring in the 30th minute. 
Chris Drury and Brian Cuevas notched goals in the 55th and 65th minutes, respectively, to give Christopher control of the game for good. 
The Cougars (2-5-1 overall, 1-2-1 in league) will play at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Monte Vista Christian. 
Eagles blank Gilroy
Gilroy and Alvarez were scoreless at halftime Thursday, but the Eagles broke open the game in the second half. 
The Eagles scored twice after the break to shutout Gilroy 2-0 in Salinas. 
The Mustangs (3-6 overall, 1-2 in league) will host North Monterey Country, 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Balers edge Cougars
Thursday’s game between Christopher and San Benito came down to two points. Unfortunately for the Cougars, those points belonged to the Balers. 
San Benito topped Christopher 48-46, extending its losing streak to four games, Thursday in Hollister.

Christopher (1-11 overall, 0-3 in league) will be back in action at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 to host Salinas. 
Mustangs fall to North Salinas
Gilroy dropped its sixth straight game, falling 67-23 to North Salinas at home Thursday.

The Mustangs (7-9 overall, 0-4 in league) will host San Benito at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
