Gilroy Mustangs

Gilroy’s Justin Hale went the distance and helped his team its first win of he season at home Tuesday.
The Mustangs used two late sixth-inning runs to escape Aptos 4-3.
Hale allowed just five hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven batters and walked two. He also went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI and a double. Dallas Wilson hit a sacrifice and drove in an RBI. Dominick Johnson also had an RBI.
Patrick Hsu went 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base for Gilroy. Michael Salinas, Ben Reeder and Will Soares all crossed home plate for the Mustangs.
The two teams each notched a run in the first and the Mariners added two more in the top of the second. Gilroy answered with one in the bottom half of the inning to trail 3-2.
Gilroy (1-1) will be back on the diamond at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Branham.
Big fifth inning propels Saratoga past Christopher
Saratoga put up a three-spot in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game at Christopher, creating a hole the Cougars couldn’t climb out of.
Christopher lost 4-2 to the visitors, giving them a 1-2 overall record in the early going.
The Cougars jumped ahead with a run in the first and Saratoga was unable to answer until it scored the equalizer in the top of the fourth. Christopher got it right back, however, to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.
But Saratoga scored three more in the top of the fifth to which Christopher had no answer.
Anthonee Bartholic was handed the loss on the bump, giving up four runs—three earned—on five hits through four and one-third innings. He also walked one and struck out two.
Makaio Duyao and Richie Rios each had an RBI and a run scored for Christopher. Rios was walked three times in the game.
The Cougars will be back on the diamond at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Carmel.

The Cougars tied the game at 4-all in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Christopher (2-0) will take on the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sobrato.
Mustangs fall to Valley Christian
Lauren Castro had a stellar day at the plate and in the circle, but it wasn’t enough to lift Gilroy to a win.
The Mustangs dropped their second straight, falling 3-1 to Valley Christian in Tuesday’s home opener.
Castro went 2 for 2 at the plate, singling in the fourth and doubling in the sixth inning. She went the distance in the circle, allowing only two earned runs, three hits and no walks while striking out three.
Gilroy’s lone run came off an RBI-single from Alexis Conlon in the bottom of the sixth, which scored Castro.
Valley Christian jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the second and added another in the fourth.
