GILROY—Lizette Alcantar led Gilroy-area golfers at the Monterey Bay League-Pacific Championships, carding a 100 at the The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas Monday.

Alcantar led the Mustangs to a team score of 702 and earned Second Team All-League honors. Also earning the Second Team All-League award was Christopher’s Mia Navarro, who led the Cougars with a 104. Christopher notched a 721 as a team, taking two automatic scores of 162 for its two missing players.
Cassidy Gilmore scored a 129 for the Mustangs, followed by team captain Alessandra Esposito. Judith Diaz scored a 169, while Nicole Dan withdrew from competition. Gilroy also was given an automatic 162 for not fielding a full team.
The Mustangs were given the Sportsmanship Award in the Pacific Division, an honor voted on by their peers.
Madisen Ruelas scored a 146 for Christopher. Teammate Samantha Vogel was right on her heels with a 147.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Mustangs top Monterey
The Gilroy girls water polo team combined for 33 steals as it cruised past Monterey 13-8 Thursday in conference play.
Erika Cates led the Mustangs with five goals, five assists and six steals. Emily Buurgaard added three goals and five steals. Ariane Lussier was solid on defense, racking up seven steals against the Toreadors.
The Mustangs will host Stevenson at 5 p.m. Thursday for the regular season finale. The team will also honor its seniors with a Senior Night celebration.
FIELD HOCKEY
Mustangs blank York
Gilroy played its first grass game of the season and had no problems adjusting to the different surface. The Mustangs blanked The York School 2-0 on the road Wednesday.

Gilroy (12-3-3 overall, 7-1 in league) will host San Benito at 3:30 p.m. today at Christopher High.
