Christopher made quick work of St. Francis, sweeping it 3-0 Tuesday in Watsonville. The Cougars won 25-14, 25-18, 25-18.
Junior Katelyn Viray led the offense with 15 kills in addition to 12 digs. Samantha Dolan also notched double-digit kills with 11.
Christa Arroyo was stellar at setter, racking up 40 assists against the Sharks as well as 17 digs. The ‘W’ was the second straight for the Cougars.
Christopher (5-2) will play at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Harbor.
FIELD HOCKEY
Cougars top Leland
Christopher won their sweltering home opener 5-1 over the Chargers Tuesday.
Leland struck first, but the Cougars quickly took control after that. They went on to score five unanswered goals. Erin Mank scored two goals for Christopher. Isabel Medina, Clare McCarry and Jacqueline Hufferd each notched one apiece.
Christopher (1-1) plays Live Oak at 3:30 p.m. today.Â
GIRLS GOLF
Mustangs fall just short of NMC
Gilroy battled the Condors—and the 102-degree heat—in Tuesday’s season opener, but fell just shy of a victory. North Monterey County came out on top, winning 251-264 at Gavilan Golf Course.
Nicole Dan birdied to lead Gilroy with a 48. Lizette Alcantar was close behind to finish with a 49. Mustangs’ captain Alessandra Esposito and newcomer Cassidy Gilmore both notched 51s. Gilmore had multiple one putts in the game, ranging from five to 20 feet out. Judith Diaz rounded out scoring for the home team with a 65.
NMC’s Michaela Galli was the match medalist. She carded a 43 against Gilroy.
The Mustangs host San Benito at 3 p.m. Thursday at Gavilan Golf Course.
Stevenson tops Christopher
Christopher dropped its season opener to Stevenson 290-209 at Gavilan Golf Course.
Mia Navarro led Christopher with a 39, which was just behind the match medalist Sofia Shalar, who led the Pirates with a 38. Nina Velez carded a 44 for Christopher, while Madison Ruelas shot a personal best of 54. Zoe Benn notched a 72 to round out scoring for Christopher. The Cougars were playing with only four girls, meaning they had to take an automatic 81 score for the missing fifth player.
The Cougars play at Notre Dame-Salinas at 3 p.m. Thursday.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Harbor edges Gilroy
The Gilroy girls water polo team lost its second straight contest, falling 10-6 to Harbor at home Tuesday.
Erika Cates and Lexi Pino each scored three goals. Cates also had three assists.Â
The Mustangs (0-2) play at Alvarez at 4 p.m. Thursday.
BOYS WATER POLO
Cougars dominant Alvarez
The Christopher boys water polo team opened its season with a dominant 21-1 win over the Eagles from Alvarez Tuesday.

The JV team also won its game 14-4.
Christopher will host San Benito Tuesday. The varsity plays at 4 p.m., JV at 5 p.m.
