The Morgan Hill Interfaith Council will combine its recognition of the anniversary of the 9/11 attack with a celebration of the International Day of Peace with a public picnic at the city’s Community and Cultural Center amphitheater on Sept. 22, according to Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate.
The picnic will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and attendees are enocouraged to bring your own lunch, along with utensils and a blanket, as well as dessert to share.
The Interfaith Council will hold a “very brief, straightforward” program about 1 p.m., Tate said.
“Sept. 22 is the United Nations International Day of Peace, and its proximity to the anniversary of 9/11 makes it a perfect time to gather as an interfaith community to share thoughts on peace and remember those lost so tragically 11 years ago,” Tate said. “It is an opportunity for each of us to practice peace in every thought, word, and deed for one day. It invites us to be mindfully aware of ourselves and the efforts we make in the cause of peace. We can underscore the primary necessity for individuals to engage in real peace-making within ourselves and with our families, neighbors, and associates.”
The Community and Cultural Center is located at 17000 Monterey Road.
