The passenger in a vehicle whose driver tried to outrun a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested after leaving the vehicle and running through fields southeast of Morgan Hill, but the driver is still at large, according to Sgt. Don Morrissey.
The deputy apparently noticed a vehicle without a rear license plate traveling south on Monterey Road near Vineyard Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver, however, sped off even after the deputy used his lights and siren to get the driver’s attention. Following a short pursuit, the driver eventually stopped, but fled on foot in the area of Foothill Avenue and Middle Avenue in unincorporated Morgan Hill.
A Sheriff’s helicopter was used to illuminate the area and assist with the search, and Morgan Hill police officers contained the area in a perimeter. Five San Jose police K-9 officers also responded to the area.
The passenger of the vehicle was found and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Morrissey said the name of the passenger is not being released at this time because the investigation is ongoing.
