At risk of elevating a foolish comment by replying to it, I do
take issue with Ben Anderson’s characterization of Gavilan College
in his recent column. Gavilan College is the alma mater to
thousands of residents of this community including numerous
community leaders and public servants.

At risk of elevating a foolish comment by replying to it, I do take issue with Ben Anderson’s characterization of Gavilan College in his recent column. Gavilan College is the alma mater to thousands of residents of this community including numerous community leaders and public servants.
We are proud to include Santa Clara County Supervisor Don Gage, Gilroy Mayor Al Pinheiro, San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill, Gilroy Superintendent of Schools Edwin Diaz, Community Solutions’ CEO Erin O’Brien, and many others among our alumni.
If you’ve received nursing care, been helped by a police officer, gotten your hair cut, or entrusted your children to preschool or day care, chances are you’ve been served by former students of Gavilan College.
This year’s graduating class includes students transferring to UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, Stanford, San Jose State University and others, from which they will go on to join the ranks of doctors, attorneys, scientists, business people and educators throughout the nation who got their start close to home, at Gavilan College.
