Sophomore point guard receives second straight Coast Conference
selection
GILROY – For the second straight season, Gavilan point guard Jimmy Herrera was an honorable mention selection to the All-Coast Conference team.

The sophomore captain was praised by opposing Coast Conference coaches for his competitive spirit, his determination, and his professional conduct.

“All of the coaches love Jimmy,” Rams’ head coach Chris Shoemaker said. ” They respect his game and they appreciate the way he represents community college athletics in a positive fashion.”

Herrera, who maintained a 3.45 grade point average – led the Rams in every offensive category during conference competition – averaging 14.6 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game. He also shot 50 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range, and 86 percent from the free-throw line.

“Jimmy was our hardest worker this year. He was always the first to arrive and the last one to leave. He was a tremendous example for our freshmen,” Shoemaker said. “I am proud to have had the opportunity to coach Jimmy. He is a first class person. While his accomplishments this year were impressive, I expect much more from him in the future.”
