VFW Bingo raced to a 13-0 lead after two innings and held on to defeat Burch Please 15-13 in a showdown in the Men’s Fall E Softball League Thursday at Christmas Hill Park.
The win snapped a tie for first place in the six-team league, leaving VFW Bingo alone atop the league at 6-2 and Burch Please second at 5-3.
Playoff Night for the Men’s E League is Thursday at Christmas Hill. VFW Bingo will play either God Squad or Loco Boys at 6:30pm, followed at 7:40 with Burch Please and Trevino Brothers. The two winners square off at 8:50 for the playoff title.
Josh Diaz and Steve Lemberger each produced a three-run home run and a single as VFW Bingo posted the 13-0 lead. Dustin Robinson and Diaz each finished 3-for-3 for the winners. Joel Gaeta collected a triple, double and single for Burch Please. Jorge Landeros went 3-for-4 for the losers.
Trevino Brothers earned the third seed (5-3) with a 25-13 victory over the Lost Boyz (2-6). Dominic Hernandez and Joe Forestieri each went 5-for-5 for the Builders. Bryan Sanchez, Henry Quistian and Tucker Baksa each scored three Lost Boyz runs.
The Loco Boys stopped the God Squad 10-3 to leave both clubs at 3-5 on the way to a tie-breaker for the fourth seed Wednesday at 7:40pm at Christmas Hill. Aljay Davis stroked three doubles for the Loco Boys. Graig Martinez tripled and singled for the God Squad.
Anritsu prepped for the Men’s EE post-season by defeating Cross Ministries 29-16 Thursday at Las Animas Park.
Ben Hartshorn went 5-for-5 and scored five runs to power the Anritsu (8-0) offense. Matt Elston came off the bench to add a grand slam and two doubles. Kiko Sierra hit a grand slam and Julian Gomez went 3-for-4 for Cross Ministries.
The Sweepers (4-4) edged Gilroy Thunder 13-12 to claim the third seed. David Pinheiro and Carlos Hernandez each scored in the eighth as the Sweepers snapped an 11-11 tie. Jason Ramirez went 4-for-4 for the Sweepers. Frank Alvernaz went 5-for-5 for Thunder.
No Soup 4 You moved to 6-2 and a second seed with a 16-14 edging of Claddagh Brew Crew. Ralph Ortez went 3-for-4 and scored three Soup runs. Kevin Belanger went 4-for-4 for Claddagh.
Anritsu plays Gilroy Thunder on Thursday at 6:30pm at Las Animas. No Soup and the Sweepers play at 7:40. The two winners meet at 8:50pm.
Out 2 Play maintained its unbeaten status in Co-Rec Fall League play Sunday at Las Animas by outlasting En Tu Cara 13-12.
Ernie Payan hit a two-run triple and scored on a Melissa Garcia single to cap the Out 2 Play scoring in a four-run sixth inning. Benny Carrasco and Payan each went 4-for-4 for the 7-0 winners. Ralph Ortez homered twice for En Tu Cara.
Team Rush (6-1) stopped Anritsu 18-4 to set up Sunday’s showdown with Out 2 Play. Andrew Mokres went 3-for-3 and Matt Hernandez and Graig Martinez each homered for Rush. Dave Soto hit a two-run double for Anritsu.
Guts & Glory reached 6-1 with a 6-2 nod over Hi-Energy Networks. Carissa Kozacek, AJ Martinez and Jimmy Sergi each scored two runs for the winners. Joseph Tovar and Sean Subia scored the Networks runs.
David Martinez went 5-for-6 and scored six runs to help Team Storm past Team Xtreme 26-9. Amanda Ross hit a home run and two singles for Xtreme.
