North Bound powered past Those Guys 22-7 Wednesday to take sole possession of first place in the Men’s E Winter Softball League standings at Las Animas Park.
Derrick Orca scored four runs and Danny Pequeno and Raul Salgado each collected a double and two singles to key the 4-0 winners. Johnny Andrade and Marc Vegas each went 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Those Guys (3-1).
Loco Boys moved into fourth place at 2-2 by outlasting Good, Bad & Ugly 18-16.
Juan Arias and Aljay Davis each singled and scored in the top of the seventh inning to cap the Loco Boys scoring. Ryan Tapia went 4-for-4 and Elias Madrid went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the winners. Good, Bad & Ugly, third at 3-2, posted 11 runs in the fourth inning. Andrew Mokres homered and Art Garcia stroked a triple, double and single for the losers.
VFW Bingo reached 2-2 with a 15-11 win over Trevino Brothers Construction. Josh Dias hit two home runs and two singles for VFW Bingo. Mike Catangay went 5-for-5 and scored four Bingo runs. Rob Silvia and Dom Hernandez each scored three Trevino Brothers runs.
The Men’s DD Basketball League featured a 55-42 Hard Ninety victory over the Hawks on Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Frankie Tomasetti worked inside for 12 points as Hard Ninety moved to 4-0 atop the six-team league while slipping the Hawks to 2-2. Mark Cisneros came off the bench with 10 points for the winners. Mark Taylan sank three 3-pointers on the way to 13 points for the Hawks. Marshad Johnson helped with 10 Hawk points.
District 5 extended its winning streak to three games with a 59-44 victory over the Spartans.
Justin Nicholson provided 27 points from his point guard spot for the District. Tucker Baksa worked the paint for 12 District 5 points. Jared Van Lehn contributed 12 points, Jordan Miller 11 to the Spartans offense.
Recology, after losing two games by a total of five points, topped Free Range Laphog 41-38 behind 11 points apiece from Devan Owens and Donny Gooding. Brad Pluckhan made the difference with nine points for Recology. LaMont Chappell guided the Laphog offense with 12 points.
