“Who would be responsible for parking lot maintenance at Gilroy High School?  I’ve noticed a large pothole in between the senior student parking rows. These kids don’t have a lot of experience driving, plus when it’s a bit dark, someone walking could have a serious injury.”

Red Phone: Dear Who Is Responsible, The Gilroy Unified School District Maintenance Department usually makes these types of repairs, said Carlos Pina, the district’s manager of maintenance and operations. After meeting with staff this week, he said they determined it was too large to fill themselves and they would need to hire an outside contractor to repair it. He said he would call contractors to get proposals for fixing it and hopes to have it completed in the next few weeks. Hope that helps, good caller.

Gilroy needs a Ghost Day
“It’s not very often Gilroy has a five-time world champion. What needs to be done is for the mayor to declare a Robert Guerrero Day and have some kind of parade downtown?

Red Phone: Dear Ghost Watcher, You are in luck. As reported by the Gilroy Dispatch, the city will indeed hold a celebration to honor Robert Guerrero and his victory last month against Michael Katsidis on May 15 on Fifth Street between Eigleberry Street and Monterey Road. There will be live music, food and even a real boxing ring and demonstration. And all the proceeds go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. So come on out and support our hometown hero.
