“I am calling to see what business is opening at the old Wal-Mart building near Hometown Buffet.”
Red Phone: Dear Hungry For Business, That would be See Grins RV, which is moving its primary lot from San Martin to the 7900 Arroyo Circle location. Owner Randy Scianna has been busy getting the final preparations ready for the June 25 grand opening celebration.
See Grins is expected to house 300 to 350 RVs, the Dispatch reported in April. The 126,000-square-foot former Wal-Mart retail store closed in 2005 when a new, 219,570-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter opened at the Pacheco Pass Shopping Center. Since then, the property has sat barren, and plans to open a go-cart racetrack there fell through in August 2010.
Rural sheriff needed
“I saw the headline about the farmers losing an ally in the rural Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff deputy George Hesslling caught taggers on our for sale sign on Church and Monterey streets right in the act of doing the tagging. This would be a real loss if we do not have a sheriff in South County who is patrolling the rural county farming area.”
Red Phone: Dear Rural Patrol, It would indeed be a shame to lose such a well-qualified sheriff such as George. Fortunately for South County residents, he will still be around to thwart crime.
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously 5-0 Wednesday to save his position and that of the other rural sheriff deputy who serves in the West Valley Area.Â
District 1 Supervisor Mike Wasserman has been outspoken in keeping the rural crime unit intact to make sure farmers and ranchers are safe in unincorporated areas of the county. If you want to let him know what you think about the decision, you can contact him at 299-5010 or mike.
