Red Phone: Safety needed on 6th Street

“I’m calling regarding the turn lane on First Street. I visit the cemetery there every other day. Every time I visit the Saint Mary or Gabilan Hills side, there is no arrow pointing inward. There is only an arrow pointing to CVS or Safeway and so forth. I would really like for the arrows to be printed on that road because a lot of people believe they are the owners of that medium in the middle and are very rude to people actually turning into the cemetery. I would like to know what is going to happen. Thank you.”

Red Phone: Dear Direction Needed, This area is scheduled to be painted this summer, said City Traffic Engineer Don Dey. There are several streets around the city that will be restriped as well. The paint has already been ordered, and the city operations crews are just waiting for a long warm stretch with no chance of rain so the process won’t have to be interrupted, Dey said. Unfortunately painting the road won’t help with rude drivers who aren’t watching what they are doing. So to all drivers who use this area, use caution so all people can be safe when making turns here.

Follow-up on junk in rural area

Red Phone: Red Phone received a concern April 26 about several junky cars lining a property on Center and Rucker avenues north of Gilroy and forwarded it on to County Code Enforcement Coordinator Jim Lanz. At the time, Lanz said although it was a low priority he would have someone take a look at it to see what could be done. “My inspector just reported that the vehicles have been removed from the site along with a significant amount of debris,” Lanz said. So hopefully this helps preserve the natural beauty of the countryside. The specific rule in the Santa Clara County Municipal Code (4.20.070) allows only two disabled vehicles per lot. But they must be screened from public view and from other properties.
