The 7-Eleven store on West Main Avenue in Morgan Hill was robbed
Tuesday night and police are looking for two suspects, one of whom
threatened the clerk with a knife while the other stole
cigarettes.
The 7-Eleven store on West Main Avenue in Morgan Hill was robbed Tuesday night and police are looking for two suspects, one of whom threatened the clerk with a knife while the other stole cigarettes.
According to police, the robbery happened about 11:50 p.m., and the store clerk called police about 20 minutes later.
The robbery was caught on a video surveillance tape, which showed an unknown Hispanic teen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, enter the store and say something to the clerk. The man asked if he could wash his hands, the clerk told police.
The suspect walked behind the front counter and washed his hands. Immediately after exiting the store, the suspect turned around and came back in with another unknown Hispanic male suspect following directly behind him.
The first suspect went behind the counter again and cornered the clerk against the wall. The second suspect, who was wearing a white bandana over his nose and mouth, remained on the other side of the counter threatening the clerk with a knife.
After a few seconds the man in the gray sweatshirt grabbed several packs of cigarettes from the counter, and both fled on foot, according to Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
The clerk, who did not speak fluent English, told police he did not understand the robbers’ demands and therefore did not give them any money.
No injuries were reported.
The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 16 and 20. The second suspect was also a Hispanic male, likely between the ages of 17 and 20.
