Gilroy – A Fresno 18-year-old was in critical condition Thursday after the car she was riding in crashed into a light pole at 10th Street.

Kazour Xiong was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the 1995 Honda. She suffered major injuries and was flown to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, according to Joy Alexiou, a hospital spokeswoman.

The accident occurred about 10pm, when driver Mai Vang, 18, exited northbound U.S. 101 at 10th Street at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the curve, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle went off the road, overturned then struck the pole. Vang suffered moderate injuries, was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital and then flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she was released Thursday.

The second passenger, Gabby Thao, 18, was uninjured.
