Gilroy – Despite outhitting the opposition and fighting back for a run in the eighth inning, Gavilan dropped another close one to Chabot College away on Saturday, 8-6.
Danny Reyes, Joel Lopez, Adam Kubo, Brian Bueno and Blake Thygersen all had two hits for the Rams, who fall to 5-12 in the Coast Conference South and 10-17 overall. After giving up eight runs in the first four innings, the pitching staff held it together to hold Chabot scoreless to give the Gavilan bats a chance to pull out a win late.
Rams starter Brent Mardesich didn’t have command early, and was saddled with the loss. Todd Gimenez and Scott Hayslip came on in relief, to pitch two scoreless innings apiece.
Chabot sits atop the conference standings.
Up next for Gavilan are away games at Cabrillo on Tuesday and at Monterey on Thursday, with a home date against West Valley on Saturday.
