For the eighth quarter in a row, Gilroy experienced positive growth in sales tax revenue, according to a report by the city.
The city raked in $3,191,714 last quarter, a 3.9 percent increase in tax revenue from the fourth quarter. The growth indicates economic rebound in the region and an increase in spender confidence, said Tammy Brownlow, president of Gilroy’s economic development corporation.
“Certainly, Gilroy is a retail destination for our region and we expect to see continued growth in this sector,” Brownlow said.
The Outlet Center alone brought in $819,171 last quarter, which was a 12.6 percent increase from 2010’s fourth quarter. Other major tax contributors were auto dealers and gas stations.
Gilroy’s growth was middle-of-the-road compared to other cities in Santa Clara County. Morgan Hill, Santa Clara and Campbell all had growth of more than 13 percent, while a few cities like Mountain View and Los Altos Hills experienced decline. The overall county growth this quarter was 9 percent.
